Six-spotted Fishing Spider

Description:

Black on top of head, thorax and abdomen. Brown underneath. seperated by a white band. Brown legs. White spots on top of abdomen. Six dark spots on sternum.

Habitat:

Freshwater lakes, streams, swamps, etc.

Notes:

Feeds on insects, tadpoles, frogs and fish. Can capture fish up to 5 times their size. One of the few spiders that preys on vertebrates. Can dive up to 18 cm to capture prey.
