These bunches of bright green algae were seen clinging to rocks in pools along the tidal zone. Whole fronds were soft with thin filmy flat blades.
Intertidal zone-beach on Bass Strait
Last year all of the rocks along this beach were covered with this green algae, especially along the mouth of the river. This year I found just little pockets of this algae. This sea weed is used as a sea vegetable by many island populations and is harvested for cosmetics. If nutrient level increases in water due to pollution, their growth increases to a "nuisance" level where they form green macroalgal blooms.
