Nephila clavipes
Golden Orb Silk Weaver, a common name for locals is the Banana Spider.
Woodlands. They build their webs between two trees at times, high enough I walk under them (I'm short), but low enough they hit my partner in his face if he doesn't pay attention.
2010 was the last time I spotted one around here. I haven't seen them since Hurricane Ike and the 2011 drought although I'm sure they will come back eventually. Another spider that people get this spider confused with is the black and yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia). The zipper pattern that the black and yellow garden spider's web is an easy way to tell the difference. If you see them side by side they are easy to tell them apart as well. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aLSGBQUA8l...

Excellent spotting Stacy.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
