Ring-necked Pheasant (male)

Phasianus colchicus linnaeus

Description:

Native to Asia, this colorful bird was introduced into North America in the 1880s. Long neck and long tail. Large bird, with iridescent green head, red bare face, white collar, maroon colored neck to belly. Back of neck is gold colored streaks to a maroon back with gold spots to grey and maroon rump. Flanks are gold with maroon spots. Wings are grey with maroon streaks. Long tail feathers are brown and grey striped. The ring-necked pheasant in North America is a hybrid of several subspecies.

Habitat:

Fields, tall grass and marshes.

Notes:

spotted in a parking lot near a grassy marsh. He was just strutting around before heading back into the grass.

there not native to here but they have been here for sometime , thats a male the female doesnt have as much color or a long tale.
