Common Yellowthroat

Geothlypis trichas

Description:

Like most birds the male is the showiest. Olive colored crown, back and tail. Black mask, white headband and medium length black bill. Throat is yellow and fades down to the belly. Flanks are pale grey. Females remind me of Bushtits. Small mousey with a faded olive coloring and yellow throat but not as bright as the males. Very loud twitchy call.

Habitat:

Usually found in marshes and wetlands. They hide in the reeds and shrubs near the water.

Notes:

I was surprised when this one showed it's self to me as it did. I love sitting on the boardwalk in the marsh and wait for the birds to come out. This area I also spot Marsh Wrens, Song Sparrows and Clapper Rails.

Like I mentioned I was sitting on the boardwalk and I could hear the Clapper Rails (some right under me), Marsh Wrens and this Yellowthroat popped out and landed across from me. I was so excited I almost missed the shots.

I know, it's an issue with this computer. I will remove it on my home computer.
