Blue crowned Motmot

Momotus bahamensis

Description:

For some unknown reason this bird had taken to sitting on our balcony light and must have been there some time as I was sitting on the table outside going through my photos my Mum came out and asked if I knew I had a friend sat looking at them with me so I got up slowly and Mum put the torch on it so I didnt scare him with my flash managed to get this picture and then left it in peace for the night. It was there again the next night so must have been a comfy spot although it usually nests in tunnels or banks.

Habitat:

This one is from the subspecies that is endemic to Trinidad and Tobago however there are several more species of blue crowned motmots across South and central America up to Mexico.
