Selasphorus rufus
The Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus) and the Allen's Hummingbird / (Selasphorus sasin) are so similar in resemblance that they are extremely difficult to differentiate from one another. Thus the ID of this Humming bird is Unidentified.
This from http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Rufou... :
Male Allen's Hummingbirds have a green back and rump. Rarely, male Rufous Hummingbirds show a green back, so look closely. If you see any completely rufous feathers (not just rufous-edged) on the back, it is a Rufous Hummingbird.
I clicked above for it to be Rufous but I'm changing my mind to Allen's.
Unfortunately I do not have a shot like that, but thanks for your help as always Liam, !
Male Rufous and Allen's hummingbirds are very difficult (some say impossible) to identify without a shot of the tail outstretched.
Unless you have a shot like that, I'm afraid I can't be of much assistance.
Great photos, by the way!
