Northern Harrier

Circus cyaneus

Description:

Large raptor with owl like face, long wing span and long tail. These hawks usually gliding low over hunting areas. This one was doing it to scare up birds and get them as they take off. Many times they prefer to perch in bushes or smaller trees and sometimes landing in the middle of reeds in marshes. Most of the times I see them, they just land on the ground as opposed to perching up high like other hawks.

Habitat:

Marsh lands, pastures, open flat areas or rolling hills

Notes:

Though this was taken with my camera, I handed it off to someone to try out and he took these pictures while I was there. . So I guess it was team work
