Talipot Palm

Corypha umbraculifera

Description:

This Talipot Palm was very tall, over 10 meters in height. Its trunk's diameter is probably around 50 cm. The leaves and branches of this tree are only at the top and its leaves are a dark green color. Many other plants were growing on its trunk. And something really cool is that at the bottom of the tree there were hundreds of green seeds all over the ground.

Habitat:

This tree was growing in Singapore Botanic Gardens. It was in an open area where it can absorb plenty of sunlight. The climate there was rather sunny and bright. I saw this tree at 5:35 PM.

Notes:

The Talipot Palm is one of the largest palms in the world. It fruits only once in its lifetime, when it is about 30-40 years, and produces thousands of yellow green fruits, which each contain one seed. What is unfortunate is that Talipot Palms die after fruiting.
