Asian Weaver Ant

Oecophylla smaragdina

Description:

My photos appear to show a species interaction between Asian Weaver Ants (Oecophylla smaragdina) and Scale Insects, possibly Wax Scales (Unidentified Sternorrhynyncha). The ants are known to like the honeydew excreted by these bugs.

Habitat:

The Asian Weaver Ants and Scale Insects were spotted in the farm on a Spiny Bamboo (Bambusa bambos), locally known as Kauayan-tinik. Plant information from - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Kauayan.htm......

Notes:

I have not been able to identify the Scale Insects (if that is what they are), but there are some photos that show Wax Scales which bare some general similarity in - https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/84463-C........
