Rothschildia erycina
one of the largest caterpillars I have ever seen, easily as thick as my thumb and nearly 3" in length
primary rainforest
This was the first caterpillar I spotted on my first hike in the Amazon. I was super stoked to this. I couldn't believe how huge it was! There were 2 more in the same area. I had really wanted to see a Rothschild moth while in Colombia but I didn't. I guess I will have to settle for the caterpillar.
