Great-Blue Heron

Description:

Found this guy at the Port Aransas National Wildlife Refuge eating a huge fish. These guys are a very lanky and scraggly bird that stand very tall when fully extended. The Great Blue Heron is one of the most common of our Herons in the US. Their diet consisted of Gophers, Fish, Crayfish, Crabs, and other marine and aquatic life. Even though Gophers are not marine or aquatic the Great-Blue Heron has developed a taste for Gopher and will not hesitate to nab a few for lunch.

Habitat:

lakes, ponds, salt marshes, rivers, streams, creeks.
