Microtia dymas
Most like Microtia elada, differing in having no orange margin along the edge of the lower hind wing, and often with a pale to whitish spot near the middle of the front edge of the upper front wing. (information from BugGuide)
Garden at a hotel
Agreed. The Focus on Nature image/info didn't match up to anything I was seeing on BugGuide for the phaon crescent. Not your fault! :-)
YES! Cindy, you can continue with suggesting!! Wrong ID, indeed! I just knew it could not be Phyciodes, so I overlooked that one.
He he, thanks guys. So does the link I gave in the comments have the wrong ID or am I just not seeing something?
Cindy, for you it is illegal not to suggest anymore!!
Yes, eventually, Aaron, that's why I have 2988 favs, for the eventual cases ;-)...
Oh, Cindy, you are pretty awesome at the western insect/spider IDs. But you're right about bayucca - one doesn't get to nearly 7,000 ID suggestions by being a slouch. If I leave something unidentified long enough, he'll eventually dig up some info on it. :-)
Glad you have an ID you agree with. I'll just stop suggesting ID's now. bayucca is a one man band. Nice butterfly, Aaron :)
I knew you'd eventually look into this one! :-) I think you've nailed it. Thanks!!
Nymphalidae, Nymphalinae, Melitaeini, Dymasia dymas chara, male (!).
Tough one! But I think there is only 1 possible candidate left...

What do you think?
Mine doesn't seem to have as much white on the forewing or the dark spots on the hindwings. (as compared to several photos on BugGuide)
