My favourite corvid, this bird is roughly the size of feral pigeon, or slightly smaller. The Eurasian Jay is a bird of striking colours: light-brownish bird with azure blue wing spots, and cream-black face. Please note the black crown: in a difference to its counterparts from other parts of continental Europe, the Caucasian races sport distinctive black crown (check here one of previous spottings of Jays in France and Switzerland: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/18......).
Jays thrive in wooded areas - they are also known as acorn hoarders (collecting acorns for winter), so they are often found in oak forests. This time during our trip through Georgia, I observed it few times in such areas. These pics are coming from the periphery of urban setting of Tbilisi (Turtle lake) and similar setting of Sighnaghi.
1) Eurasian Jay is a very loud bird, and is often acting as sentinel, warning other animals about foreigner presence in the forest by emitting loud and distinctive cries. 2) Like all members of crow or corvids family (Corvidae), reputed really intelligent.
