Description:

Thallus long; pale gray to dark smoky brown, hanging in clumps, with slender strands containing long narrow slits on the surface. In old-growth forest habitats and forested peatlands on conifers and hardwoods. Important genus for wildlife forage and nesting material. At least fifteen species of Bryoria occur.

Habitat:

Spotted on a ponderosa pine limb.
