Sleepy Orange Butterfly

Abaeis nicippe

Description:

Wingspan about 2.5 inches. Very active butterfly. Strong vein markings. Yellow is the summer color and then it darkens as the butterfly ages. Second figure is the caterpillar stage.

Habitat:

Grassy meadow with wildflowers. Protected by trees.

Notes:

Sightings in the area, for week March 28, 2016 confirmed by the Dallas Lepidopterists' Society.
