Liberty Cap

Psilocybe semilanceata

Description:

Someone on mycotopia.net thought this was most likely a young P. semilanceata that has not started to spore (hence the pale gills). Otherwise maybe it's sterile? I don't know what the law is on whether it's allowed to have a dried sample in your house. thanks Gully for confirmation!

Yup, it's a Liberty Cap. And illegal is the answer!

But of course you will never be prosecuted for a single specimen with a clear interest in mushrooms.
