African Tulip

Spathodea campanulata

Description:

African Tulips are easy to spot in the SAS rainforest, given that they are about a 6 inch pod filled with hundreds of tiny little seeds. African tulip pods are dark brown and about 15-16 centimeters long. The seed itself is about 6 millimeters. It's a very light brown or tan color. The seed has a very thin, clear outer coating which allows the seed to ravel by wind.

What a cool fact! Thanks Jesse! Also, you may want to include pictures of the flower, trunk, and canopy of the tree for identification purposes.

You can use the seed poultice for poison on the end of a hunting arrow or spear.
