Chalk-browed Mockingbird

Mimus saturninus

Description:

Spotted in the dunes, near the beach in José Ignacio, Uruguay. I estimate it to be between 15-20cm. It was sitting alone. Thanks for the identification Liam!

Thank you Liam! I also had trouble agreeing with Tom's identification (thanks a lot for the suggestion nevertheless Tom!). This is absolutely the bird. I actually considered this earlier, but the photo in my birds book is not very clear. However, the photo on the Wikipedia page absolutely is. Thanks again :-)

Cinclodes is a similar, but the supercilium is too wide and bill too slim for Cinclodes. I'd call it a Chalk-browed Mockingbird.

Nice spotting! This looks like a Buff-winged Cinclodes - Cinclodes fuscus. It's the only species of Cinclodes listed for Uruguay. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buff-winged...
