Toque macaque

Macaca sinica

Description:

Small brown-backed monkey with long tail and white chest and belly. The face is pinkish, and usually sport a tuft of hair on the crown of various length.

Habitat:

This species is endemic to Sri Lanka, and three sub-species are identified - I can't really claim to distinguish them; as these photos are results of several encounters in central, hilly part of the island, near the forest, but also also human habitations. These were taken around historical sites of Dambula and Sigiriya...

Notes:

Since long time, I'm trying to organise my photo archives, and I'm almost at the end - but some very old gems keep popping out .... such as these, taken during my stay in Lanka end of the last century.
