Description:

Tall, gray-bodied, crimson-capped birds breed in open wetlands, fields, and prairies across North America. Colts are about a week old.

Habitat:

The wetland where they were born in a gated subdivision in eastern Sarasota County. These birds nest in many retention ponds here.
