Ostrea edulis
An old and worn European flat oyster upper shell, spotted in shallow waters at Chrisi akti Panagias, Pagasitikos gulf. The species is endemic and very common, in Greek waters.

Oh yes that is true ;) too much money for something raw! are just right, do you have also that (don't know if it is actually a) myth that they are fuller in the month when the Latin name of that month has R inside, basically that excludes all the months of summer, meaning poor tourists ordering real sea food ;)
They believe the same here, but still, it's an expensive delicacy, commercially available for only few weeks every year... But I don't eat oysters, so I couldn't care less about prices or whatever...I'm fine with mussels :)
But oysters are aphrodisiac! Not sure whether that is true but it is a good excuse for those who are eating it in large quantities ;) it's a local myth ;)
Dear @Injica, I don't really eat oysters...My husband likes it, but I don't...I prefer mussels, instead...
