Carolina Leaf Rolling Cricket

Camptonotus carolinensis

Description:

1cm small brown "cricket" with clear shell and huge antennae. The legs are short and rear legs are close to the size of the rest despite being jumping legs

Habitat:

Several spottings of this species have always been on local Pittosporum shrubs and despite the "juvenile" look of the specimen all the ones spotted over several months were the same. Pittosporum in dry sclerophyll remnant ridges among coastal suburbs. Nocturnal spottings only. They appear to have been introduced as part of a weed control regime (see reference)

Notes:

So far these are difficult subjects to photograph without harm. Next season may bring better shots and more spottings. Identification by Raeven. Nice work!

Nice work Raeven. Apparently they were introduced as a weed control regime and you were correct first time

Reminds me a bit of a Carolina Leaf-Roller (Camptonotus carolinensi
http://bugguide.net/node/view/29828 ). A place to start?
