Giant Damselfly

Mecistogaster sp

Description:

huge damselfly, 8 in wingspan, don't know the species but pretty sure on the genus

Habitat:

tropical rainforest, amazon

Notes:

It's not hard to miss these giant damselflies fluttering through the forest but they were hard to photograph. They don't let you get close, this photo was cropped for a better view.

So neat you got one of these! I saw one in the Tuxtla forest and couldn't get close enough. They are really shy.

Wow, that must have been quite a site seeing them fly around. Thank you for posting all of your wonderful spottings from your awesome trip!
