Red-bellied Woodpeckers

Melanerpes carolinus

Description:

I watched these two for awhile. The youngster just sat on the tree while the parent poked around and finally came up with something. It fed the fledgling, then took off. The youngster sat there awhile, then worked its way over to where the parent had found the food and started poking around in the same area.

Habitat:

Wooded area above Belton Lake.
