Blue Tailed Lizard, Five Lined Skink

Eumeces fasciatus

Description:

Juvenile's bright blue tail may break off and twitch to get away from predators. Older skinks may lose their stripes and tail may fade to dull purple or brown. Males turn all brown with an orange head.

Habitat:

Damp woodlands, hardwood forests, pine woods, gardens, sawdust heaps.

Notes:

Found around foundation of my house. This one came into the work room and was caught by Olive the house cat. We got it away from her alive but injured. It rested for a long time then escaped when I attempted to move it off the front porch.
