Giraffa camelopardalis giraffa
Tallest terrestrial mammal. The elegant giraffe shows light and dark brown coat patterns, 2 small horns, a very long neck (only 7 vertebraes) and very long legs.
Giraffe are present in savannas, grasslands and open woodlands. They feed on acacias, despite the very sharp and long thorns. The Giraffes spotted in Senegal have been imported from South Africa.
It is classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as Least Concern, but has been extirpated from many parts of its former range, and some subspecies are classified as Endangered.
