Black Vespid Wasp

Description:

Several of these small black wasps were feeding at the outer bases of the leaves on an arboreal bromeliad. Family Vespidae.

Habitat:

Semi-urban area on the outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

There is a Conopid or Thick-Headed Fly in San Cristobal that almost exactly mimics this wasp: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/168....
