Shells - occupants unknown

Description:

I have no idea whether these are occupied or not, nor whether they are original or subsequent occupants if they are occupied. The size can be gauged from the Common Sandpiper in the second picture. Hundreds of these can be seen at low tide.

Habitat:

Mudflats at low tide.
