Gibbifer sp
I found this beetle feeding on rotting wood
thank you so much Anne Marie McCaffrey for all this information!
very apreciated!!

I think Gibbifer is a good guess, it is very hard to get a confirmed ID, there are not good references for Central American beetles. Have a look here:http://www.sil.si.edu/digitalcollections/bca/navigation/bca_12_07_00/bca_12_07_00showplate.cfm?id=300. Biologia Centrali Americana is a beautifully illustrated collection of organisms. It includes the most complete collection of central american beetles I've seen anywhere - but it is 100 years out of date. As research has continued species are reassigned to different genera etc. So if you identify a beetle here you then have to do some detective work to track down it's modern name...which is often impossible! From what I can find out Gibbifer is synonymous with Cypherotylus - that is, Gibbifer is the "modern" name for the genus identified as Cypherotylus on this page.
A beautiful beetle - one of the Pleasing Fungus beetles I think, family Erotylidae.
