Butorides virescens
Once again at dusk, I was treated to a peek at a surprise vistor at the little pond near work. This green heron was hiding in tall brush on the bank when my kids startled it. Like the night herons (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/243...) I spotted last week at this same pond, green herons are in this part of Georgia for the summer breeding season only.
Breeds in swampy thickets. Forages in swamps, along creeks and streams, in marshes, ponds, lake edges, and pastures.
Spotted at a wooded detention/retention pond in an office building complex in Kennesaw, GA
