Podaxis sp.
Fungus growing out of termite mound.
Open sourveld grassland.
Observed in Malolotja Nature Reserve.
It looks like it is most likely one of the Podaxis species, but possibly not P. pistillaris, which is a ground-inhabiting species, rather than being associated with termite mounds.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podaxishttp://www.ispot.org.za/node/142374
Thanks, EduHerNav, I will investigate these further.
I have two ideas: it is an immature Termitomyces or is a Podaxis pistillaris.
