Black Drongo, King Crow

Dicrurus macrocercus

Description:

Slender of build, Fully black except one tiny white spot at the base of the beak. Harsh screechy call unless courting when the call becomes distinctly more melodious. I am usually tricked into believing it is a new bird altogether.

Habitat:

Trees or electric lines. Interestingly since a high powered street light has been installed these stay awake late into the night catching insects that are attracted to the light. I wonder if this can trigger some sort of behavioral change.

Notes:

Very aggressively defends own territory. Not afraid even of the Barn owl that lives nearby.
