Golden Orb Weaver

Nephila clavipes

Description:

About 5 cm long, with the legs. Olive color body with yellow spots, yellow-banded legs.

Habitat:

Golden orb weavers spin prominent webs across lowland forests, but I found this female across the walkway of an old farmhouse near the forest edge. We saw a few others on trees nearby the farmhouse, with the tiny males (half a centimeter long) clinging to the corners of their mates' large webs.
