Bald Faced Hornet

Habitat:

Deciduous habitat. Found in a rotting log.

Notes:

When I turned this rotted log over today, I found 6 hornets just staring at me in a lethargic state. After snapping some pics I put the log back the way I found it. Bald faced hornets will hibernate in rotted logs over the winter. Apparently these guys were still sleepy, thank goodness!
