Yellow- footed Green Pigeon

Treron phoenicoptera

Description:

This violet eyed beauty is rarely seen on the ground. In trees its green colour helps it to blend in perfectly and you would never guess there were so many of them on one tree.

Habitat:

Berry bearing trees such as Ficus religiosa...or any fruit-bearing tree.

Notes:

I was told these are called Hariyal in Hindi (Hara in Hindi means Green; Hariyali means Greenery) and that these are hunted and eaten. I have a short video of a Mother bird being nudged by her chick till, like all pigeons, she gives it a drink of 'pigeon milk.'
