Lysippus Metalmark

Riodina lysippus

Description:

3 species in the genus Riodina. They are all characterised by the presence of orange bands on the fore and hindwings.

Habitat:

tropical rainforest, amazon

Notes:

I spotted this at Salto del Golondrino, near Mocoa. I'm pretty sure about the ID, it has the white spots that characterize R. lysippus and has the stubby black tails on the hindwings

Thanks a lot celestialprincess, Rieko and LandmarkExpert! This is one of my favorites for sure! I couldn't believe how many amazing butterflies and moths I was seeing (and photographing) in Colombia.
