Descolea recedens
With broad conical caps these mushrooms stood like pieces of rusted iron bolts. The cap was about 40 mm wide and the major part of it was purplish black with the colour fading to a rosy pink and a pale yellow towards a slightly undulating margin. The texture of the cap was smooth and slightly rubbery. Gills were an deep ochre colour, close and notched. The stipe was the same colour as the gills and had pale scaly tissue down the length of it. The most interesting feature of this mushroom was the low placed ring - a skirt-like delicate but furrowed ring was seen near the base of the stipe. Where attached to the stipe, the ring showed a deep wavy pattern, like teeth.
Spotted growing at the base of a tall Eucalyptus tree in a reserve.
My thanks to Clive Shirley for the ID. Fascinating fungus, with it's interesting annulus. We've had continuous rain for about 4 or 5 days with temperatures about 15C.

Thank you Clive. It appears to be Descolea recedens, according to Museum Victoria. So glad to have an ID.
This looks to be a Descolea species.
