Swift

Apus apus

Description:

Recognized among swifts for anchor shaped silhouette in flight and all black plumage, except for slightly paler throat and forehead. The tail is deeply forked, but forks are often kept together, giving the bird that anchor shape.

Habitat:

This is the commonest species of swift in the region, and a summer visitor. Favors urban centers, and is therefore often seen flying above coastal towns. Here, above Šibenik.

Notes:

Fast and unpredictable flyer and a nightmare to photograph - I try it every summer, and end up with a ton of crap pics... including this summer... I'll probably end up taking some training...
