Ensign Wasp

Description:

Ensign wasps are parasitic on cockroaches as larvae, however despite the sometimes huge roach populations, Ensign wasps are less common and rarely seen. The adults feed on nectar. They usually carry the flag-like little abdomen high in the air above the legs. Family Evaniidae.

Habitat:

Abandoned field, semi-urban area, outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
