Tall herb-like, rhizomatous plant. At the terminal end a thickening occurs, the sides of which develop pockets. From each pocket arises a fragrant white flower on stalk. Petals are unequal. Not all flowers bloom at the same time , so the head may bloom for a long time...sometimes having only one flower to show. When almost the entire head is blooming it has a showy appearance The flowers wilt almost as soon as they are picked. The plant flowers only once.
Moist soil. Often found in rural gardens. Does not grow/grow well in pots.
Caterpillar host particularly of Grass Demon Udaspes folus (I have a spotting, if you'd like to see.)
