A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Asterocampa_celtis
The lighting is causing a bit of a problem. The wings are mostly gray-brown or orange-brown. The eyespot marking of the wings is very distinctive. The underside of the wings is either tan or light gray-brown. (See Notes). The butterfly may be pollinating the Eastern Redcedar. There are also many Hackberry trees in the area.
Found at edges a large stand of a mixture of Hackberry and Juniper trees and a nearby creek bed.
The butterfly was identified by members of the Dallas County Lepidopterists' Society.
