Evergreen Wisteria

Millettia reticulata

Description:

Twining, flowering evergreen vine. Can reach heights and lengths of 20 feet, and widths of 3 to 6 feet. It has glossy, leathery green leaves and a woody stem. Its small, pea-like flowers bloom in clusters that average 6 to 8 inches in length.

Habitat:

It is growing on the structure of an old swing in a wildlife habitat yard.

Notes:

Evergreen wisteria’s flowers are highly fragrant and bloom during summer, although mature plants can bloom from summer through fall continually. Removing the spent flowers, or deadheading, can help encourage the plant to keep blooming. Although this plant is not invasive, like Chinese wisteria can be, it does grow vigorously and must be given a sturdy support structure.
