One of several boreal-dwelling commas. Resembles the Eastern, but is charcoal gray beneath rather than brown. Classification Scientific name: Polygonia progne Family: Nymphalidae, Subfamily: Nymphalinae Average Size Wing Span: 1 5/8 - 2 /12 inches (4.4 - 6.3 cm) Where to Find Caterpillar Hosts: Gooseberries (Ribes) and azalea (Rhododendron).
