A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Scuddaria spp.
This katydid is closing in on the final instar before adulthood. It is the same species as the katydid seen in spotting: (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/284... - 1st and 2nd Instar). In the last nymphal instar before adulthood, orthopteran wings “flip.” The hind wing (eventually to become the large, fan-folded flight structure) sits on top of the forewing (the elongate leathery tegmina which will protect the hindwing in adulthood).
