Helix pomatia

Description:

The Helix pomatia has a brown/green and tan striped spiral on its shell and has a navy green speckled body with two antennae. The antennae are used to smell which actually helps them navigate.

Habitat:

gardens, vineyards, especially along rivers

Notes:

I found this snail on my porch steps in the middle of the night

I've moved this snail from the Arthropod category to the Other category for you. Snails and slugs are Mollusks. Arthropods have an exoskeleton and jointed limbs in at least one phase of their life. Think dragonfly, bee, crab, and ant.
