Robber flies (mating)

Description:

I have been seeing a lot of robber flies this year, and was finally treated to a pair. I observed the male as he buzzed down to the ground and grabbed the female. He then flew up to this plant with her and began to hook up with her. They let me in close for photos and I snapped away! He repeatedly lifted and dropped their abdomens, and after about 2 minutes he flew away.

Habitat:

City park
