The crab is light brown with a body with of about 5-6 inches across.
This crab lives in the coastal waters within the protected tribal waters of the Annette Island Reserve. The Reserve is a part of the Metlakatla Indian Community, the only Indian Reservation in the state of Alaska. The snow crab is one of three crab types that is found in this region.This crab frequents depths of 200 -900 feet. Dungeness crabs occupy the shallower depths and King crabs the lower depths. The coastal bottom depths around this island were carved out by glaciers resulting in a shallow to deep depths. This environment is suitable for a wide variety of crabs.
The crab is a subsistence foods for the Metlakatla Indian Community. The crab was trapped with the permission of Metlakatla Indian Community for the purposes of environmental awareness. The crab was released back into the environment.
