North American Wood Turtle

Glyptemys insculpta

Description:

Medium-sized, semi-aquatic. Gray with shell-like design on shell.(worn). Shell Length: Unusually large at 10-12 inches long (25.4 - 30.8 cm) Yellow and black lines can be seen on scutes. Underside yellow with black blotches (did not pick up). Skin is bright orange/red. Omnivorous feeding on both plants in water and variety of insects and even some fungi.

Habitat:

Found on bank of the deepest part of a spring-fed brook. Heavy covering of plant life especially thorns.

Notes:

Species of Special Concern. Rare and unique.
