Dark Red Columbine

Aquilegia atrata

Description:

The beautiful Dark Red Columbine resembles the European Columbine but has dark purple flowers. This plant is found in alpine clearings on limestone ground, and flowers from May to July. Distribution: Alps and the Alpine foothills and the mountain ranges of south-eastern Europe (Apennines).

Habitat:

Forest clearing with ferns, alt. 1300 m. Found in the Derborence area, a high biodiversity site with two different climates; in the lower part where this spotting was made the climate is continental, dry and hot. http://www.derborence.ch/sommaire/englis...
